Happy New Year! It’s Chinese New Year! We wear red clothes. Red is lucky. We get red envelopes with money inside! We eat lots of food. We have fireworks. They go bang! We visit family. We say “Happy New Year!” 新年快乐! (Xīnnián kuàilè!)

4. The Great Wall (长城 Chángchéng)

The Great Wall is very long! It’s very, very old. It goes all the way across China. It’s made of bricks. It’s to keep enemies out. It's a big wall! I want to visit the Great Wall someday. It's amazing!

5. Pandas (熊猫 Xióngmāo)

Pandas are cute! They are black and white. They eat bamboo. They live in China. They are very cuddly. They are sleepy. Pandas are my favorite animals. They are amazing!

6. Chinese Lanterns (灯笼 Dēnglong)

I saw a beautiful lantern! It was red and gold. It was round. It had pictures on it. Lanterns are pretty. We use them for festivals. They light up the night. I like lanterns very much.

7. Calligraphy (书法 Shūfǎ)

My grandpa writes calligraphy. He uses a brush and ink. He writes Chinese characters. The characters are beautiful. He writes on paper. It takes practice. Calligraphy is an art.

8. Learning Chinese Characters (汉字 Hànzì)

Learning Chinese characters is fun! They are pictures. Some are easy. Some are hard. I know how to write 一 (yī) – one. And 二 (èr) – two! I want to learn more characters. They are interesting.

My family has many traditions. We eat dinner together every night. We celebrate Chinese New Year. We visit grandparents. We tell stories. We help each other. Family is important.

10. My Favorite Chinese Song (我最喜欢的中国歌曲 Wǒ zuì xǐhuan de Zhōngguó gēqǔ)
