2015 China Cultural Museum Annual Conference: Preserving and Promoting Chinese Heritage358

Held from August 10th to 12th, 2015, the 2015 China Cultural Museum Annual Conference brought together experts, scholars, and practitioners from within the Chinese museum community and beyond to discuss a wide range of issues related to preserving and promoting Chinese cultural heritage.

The conference theme, "Innovative Transformation and Communication in Museum," reflected the need for museums to adapt to changing societal and technological landscapes. Speakers emphasized the importance of embracing new technologies, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and engaging with a broader audience.

One of the key topics discussed at the conference was the role of museums in promoting intangible cultural heritage. Intangible cultural heritage refers to the non-physical aspects of culture, such as traditions, crafts, and performances, which are often passed down from generation to generation through oral and practical transmission. Speakers highlighted the challenges of safeguarding this type of heritage, given its ephemeral nature and the increasing pressures of globalization.

Another major theme of the conference was the use of digital technologies in museums. Speakers explored the potential of digital tools for enhancing visitor engagement, expanding access to museum collections, and facilitating research and collaboration. They also discussed the challenges of balancing the use of technology with the preservation of the physical experience of visiting a museum.

The conference also featured a series of workshops and training sessions designed to provide practical guidance to museum professionals. These sessions covered a wide range of topics, from exhibition planning and design to collections management and educational programming.

In addition to the main conference events, attendees also had the opportunity to visit several museums in Shenzhen, including the Shenzhen Museum, the Guangdong Provincial Museum, and the OCT Art & Design Gallery. These visits provided participants with firsthand insights into the innovative approaches being adopted by Chinese museums.

The 2015 China Cultural Museum Annual Conference was a resounding success, attracting over 1,000 participants from across China and around the world. The conference provided a valuable platform for sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and fostering collaboration within the Chinese museum community.
