China Adjusts Travel Restrictions for International Travelers Amidst Evolving COVID-19 Situation51

After nearly three years of strict border controls and quarantine measures, China is gradually easing its travel restrictions for international travelers. These adjustments reflect the country's cautious approach to reopening its borders while containing the spread of COVID-19.

Effective March 2023, China has removed the requirement for international travelers to undergo centralized quarantine upon arrival. Instead, travelers are now subject to a 5+3 health monitoring period, which comprises 5 days of home quarantine followed by 3 days of self-monitoring health observation. During the 5-day home quarantine period, travelers are required to stay at their designated residence and conduct daily self-health monitoring. They are also prohibited from using public transportation or gathering in public places.

Additionally, China has scrapped the quota system that limited the number of international flights allowed to enter the country. This move aims to increase flight capacity and facilitate travel between China and other countries. However, airlines are still required to implement stringent COVID-19 prevention measures, such as requiring passengers to provide negative COVID-19 test results taken within 48 hours prior to departure.

Despite the easing of restrictions, China continues to maintain certain entry requirements for international travelers. All travelers are still required to apply for a Chinese visa and obtain a Health Declaration Form before entering the country. Travelers are also required to undergo a nucleic acid test upon arrival and accept a second test if their first test result is positive.

These latest adjustments are a significant step towards reopening China's borders and restoring international travel. However, it is essential to note that the COVID-19 situation remains fluid, and China may adjust its travel policies accordingly. Travelers are advised to stay updated with the latest travel advisories and regulations issued by the Chinese authorities.
